I have been working on my new book for some time, lost my inspiration last year but have, after digging deep, managed to get to work on this free book and a series of books to follow.

Role-playing games came from the desire to tell stories, to be part of a living story,
where we get to act out the parts of the heroes; everyone else in the case of the
gamesmaster. We have traditionally done this through a series of encounters, where
the gamesmaster leads the story through a plot, either preprepared or created on
the fly as the game progresses. I thought I would try something different. This free supplement is hopefully the first part of a series of story adventures for the Chivalry & Sorcery game system. The first part of the book is a story, outlined by myself and written by Chris Prophet. The second half of the book is the roleplaying guts of the adventure, it takes the story and gives the encounters and skill challenges that
make up the story that has been presented in the first part of the book. The third part of the book is some historical context and reference material that will give the reader some information to take Frostland into a more realistic Viking world, even though this from the sagas is still quite fantastic. The second instalment will be on sale for a small cost and depending upon how popular the format is, it will see the story through to its conclusion, the Dawn of a New Age.

The Heroes Cleave
Rush torches by the entrance to the great hall guttered then rekindled as Hathrad Haskell,
Herald to Dawn of Snow, slammed the great doors shut. At the far end of the hall, Dawn of
Snow sat on her high-backed throne, patiently awaiting him to join them. Her chestnut hair
was swept and plaited in the style of the Frostland people, with lucent brown eyes probing
the small band of adventurers arrayed before her.

Finally, the herald came to stand beside the throne and announced somewhat overloud:
“The hall is secure Lady Snow, all servants, nobles and animals are expelled,” a subtle
smirk playing on his bearded lips.
“Well done Hathrad, diligent as always,” Dawn awarded, then with a slight frown, “did
you not say there were five worthies for this quest? I see but four men and no sign of the
woman you promised, the one called Nightshade.”
Hathrad’s mouth worked without issuing any attestable words. Not waiting for a response,
Dawn continued: “My new herald seems lost for words, so I’ll do the honours. Jogesi
welcomes you, doughty adventurers, it’s an honour to meet with you all. I crave your
friendship, so please step forward and introduce yourselves.”

A swarthy man in cuirbouilli armour, with boar spear in hand, took a step forward and
announced: “Hasgal Trollspear, at your service my lady. I am a brother of the Vlu Ensom,
who are proud to protect your borders.”
Dawn’s smile was open and honest: “You have my heartfelt thanks Hasgal – and the thanks
of my entire kyngdom to your valiant band of foresters. I’m curious though about your
name – Trollspear?”
He gave a wry but winning smile, “Hah, you found me out, my lady. Unfortunately, I was
born a bastard with no name to speak of. So my brothers in the Vlu Ensom1 named me
‘Trollspear’ in jest, following an unfortunate incident…” Dawn nodded and smiled, “We have no secrets here Hasgal, please let us in on the jest.”
