My friend Steve has upgraded to the Sony A7 r V, Generously, as he always is, he has given me his old camera, a not-too-shabby Sony A7 r IV, an older but still fantastic camera.
The Sony A7 r IV is not the latest addition to Sony's A7 series of full-frame mirrorless cameras, but it still is a remarkable piece of technology. The camera boasts a number of impressive features that make it an ideal choice for both amateur and professional photographers.
The first thing that stands out about the Sony A7 r IV is its high-resolution 61-megapixel sensor. This allows the camera to capture incredibly detailed images with excellent clarity and sharpness. The camera's Bionz X image processing engine, combined with the high-resolution sensor, ensures that images come out with vivid colours and incredible dynamic range.

Another standout feature of the Sony A7 r IV is its fast and accurate autofocus system. The camera features 567 phase-detection AF points that cover nearly 73% of the image area, allowing for quick and precise autofocus even in challenging lighting conditions. The camera also has Real-time Eye AF, which uses AI to detect and track a subject's eyes, ensuring that focus is maintained even when the subject moves.

The Sony A7 r IV also boasts impressive video capabilities. The camera can record 4K video at 30 frames per second, and it also has built-in image stabilization, making it possible to record smooth and stable video even when handholding the camera. The camera also has a number of video-specific features, such as S-Log and HLG, which allow for more flexible grading and post-production options.
In terms of build and design, the Sony A7 r IV is solid and well-built, with a weather-sealed body that makes it suitable for use in challenging environments. The camera also has a large and clear electronic viewfinder, and a touch-sensitive LCD screen that allows for easy control and playback of images.
The Sony A7 r IV is an excellent camera that offers an impressive combination of image quality, autofocus, and video capabilities. It is an excellent option for photographers looking for a high-performance full-frame mirrorless camera that can handle a wide range of shooting scenarios.
Of course, I haven't had much chance to use the thing yet, winter and all. Looking forward to springtime.
