The Obsidian Circle

An Organisation Outline for Anderia

Other Names

The Black Ring, The Hole, The Pit

Date of creation

Sometime around 495 AU, during one of the most bloody wars Anderia has ever seen, the Chaos Masters thrived, they prostituted themselves to the highest bidder and their creativeness for imagining new ways to use their magickal talents in the war was highly prized.

Creation / Foundation

At some point in the 25 years of that bloody war, the founder of the Obsidian Circle recruited a small band of magically gifted Chaos Masters. These masters were adept at opening connections to other realms and drawing out creatures to fight their employer's enemies. Cordellon Masseri has some big ideas, why make small temporary connections when one big one would enable all manner of creatures through to fight. In addition, think of the exploration and research possibilities these new realms might offer. It took them two years and the loss of several of their number before they were finally able to open the rift. A large black circular eye, pulsation with purple lightning and reflecting no light at all. It was when the first of the visitors came through, that the Obsidian Circle was formally in existence. In the years that followed a vast forest grew up around the old tower that the group were operating out of. The sudden appearance of the forest and the loss of the Chaos Master gave the new growth its name. The Cordellon Forest.

Aims & Goals

The creatures that came through the rift were not like the animals that had previously been brought from other realms, these were humanoid, green and like nothing, the Chaos Masters had ever seen. These creatures took over the whole group and imposed their will and desired upon the Obsidian Circle. they were the true founders of the order. Where these entities come from, Psionics are common and everyone exists in a hive mind, no one has any real experiences, their spirit is subdued and their creativity stifled, they merely perform the actions the hive needs for the greater good of the unit. When they arrived here, they were freed! Suddenly they could think and feel for themselves, they could have experiences and enjoy the taste of food. At first, the Chaos Master had to teach the creatures about experiencing things and creativity and individualism. Later, however, the creatures would find that they had a unique way to gain experiences much faster.

  • Protect the identity of the creatures

  • Bring them new experiences to devour

  • Perform spying and assassination to advance the creation of a new hive where they are the masters of all.

  • Research the way to close the Rift

Description

The group is formed up of circles of 9 operatives, those in the know about them, usually agents and resources needed by the group, call them the circle of 9. One of the 9 members is the leader and tends to remain hidden from the agents and the resources, he alone reports up to the next level of command. This leader has had his mind invaded by the mentally superior invaders, his will is his not his own. While his mind thinks he is doing things he wants to and is important to him, all of his decisions are being driven by the inserted engrams that the invaders have bestowed upon him. The leader of the circle of nine is usually an Assassin of some level of experience, usually at or above 6th Level. His group of men will be half that level. This is the basic unit that goes out and performs the day to day missions, these missions come to the leader through telepathy, though he receives them as his own ideas and motives.

The next level up is called the Perimeter, this also has nine members, however, this group is usually led by one of the invaders. His men are much more experienced than the circle of nine, each of them being the quality of a leader (6th Level Assassin). Their missions, come directly from the invader in charge, usually to bring victims for him to take their experiences, but sometimes they have a more serious mission, to advance the big picture of creating the new hive over in this realm.

The next level up is the top level of the organisation, called the core, this is formed of the nine original members who came through the rift all those years ago. Since then they have learned the magicks of this world as well as improved upon their psionic capabilities. They are the big thinkers of the Order and have access to the Rift, their Thralls (the original 12 Chaos Masters, somehow kept alive), 9 high-level Assassins, 12th Level and creatures they have drawn out of the rift.

Powers

The main power of the organisation is secrecy and stealth, to most they would appear to be a group of thieves or assassins if they even got on to the radar of anyone. They are adept at performing missions and leaving behind only a mystery. Of course, as you go up in the levels of the order then they start to get more into Psionic powers and finally magickal and psionic powers once the main core of the organisation is reached. They have access to creatures from another realm that is beyond the crazed imaginings of anyone in Anderia or the rest of the world for that matter.

    • He is masquerading as a merchant, shipping wool across Anderian and into Urtind and other countries. He is a rotund man, whose size hides well his speed and agility with two dagger fighting.

  • Ronoldo Perfumo / Human / Male / Assassin / 7th Level / Leader of the Circle of Nine for Borreshire

    • He is in charge of a wandering troupe of Entertainers, they travel their region of operation scouting and spying at all of the noble and guild houses. He is a flamboyant fob who enjoys the company of little boys as much as he does hurting women. His actions have brought the security of his group to the brink more than once, it is 50/50 if his master decides he is too much of a risk and has him ended.

  • Earl Alfredo Durelli / Human / Male / Knight / 8th Level / Leader of the Circle of Nine for Vildenshire

    • Tall and incredibly strong, he and his family are all members of this circle of operatives. Joining

Most who join the circle, are recruited and trained by the leader of a circle of nine who is under the mental control of one of the invaders. Advancement is through the level of control the invaders can exercise over the agent, those who are through to control will never make any advancement in the circle. By the time you have reached a leader of a cell of the circle the invaders have already inserted so many false desires and ideas into your brain, you aren't really who you were anymore.

Allies:

Some of the Chaos Master seek out the circle, thinking that they can gain some sort of patronage from them, most are lost and worried about the consequences of using their powers, being caught by the guild and then killed for their abilities.

Rivals:

The only real rival the guild has is called the Order of the Blue Mantle. As well as the obvious definition of a blue mantle being an item of clothing, a blue mantle is also a type of snapdragon flower. The second batch of invaders that came through the rift saw this flower and it looked much like its true form. These invaders, unlike the masters of the Obsidian Circle, can shape change into another form. They are able to look male, female, human elven or dwarven. In the other realm, this invader is considered food for the hive. They are bent on destroying the Obsidian Circle, and while they have no love for humanity, seeing it as a disgusting cesspit of immorality and chaos; they take agents into their group to help them. Choosing the most lawful and pure that humanity has to offer.
